Program Overview

Goals and Objectives / Sequence of Courses

The Dietetic Internship program at Illinois State University is a 21-month experience offered in conjunction with a Master of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. Application to the Graduate Program is required following matching into the Dietetic Internship. The program consists of 33* hours of graduate coursework which includes a minimum of 1081 hours of supervised practice - approximately 384 hours of clinical nutrition, approximately 320 hours of food service management, approximately 320 hours of community nutrition, 25 hours from the Advanced Medical Nutrition Therapy course, and 32 hours from the Graduate Seminar course. The program also includes a 15 hour orientation program.

Mission

The Dietetic Internship Program suitably prepares students to to join the dietetics profession as a competent entry-level practitioner by providing ample opportunities to increase their capacity for inquiry, logical thinking, critical analysis, and synthesis as they apply theory to practice.
