Purpose: 

The course provides you with an understanding of how principles of biomechanics apply in the workplace.

Pre-requisites: KNR 282, Biomechanics of Human Movement,  or instructor consent

Objectives: At the end of the course, you will be able to:
1.  Describe the components of the simple-joint model of the human body.
2.  Describe the biomechanical characteristics of connective tissue, muscle and joints.
3.  Explain the mechanical basis of acute and repetitive motion trauma to connective tissue, muscle, joints and the nervous system.
4.  Develop a link-segment model of limbs and the human body based on subject appropriate anthropometric data
5. Apply an inverse-dynamic analysis to calculate joint moments of force and joint reaction forces of a supported and unsupported body segment in a static situation.
6. Biomechanically evaluate the appropriateness of the workplace-worker interaction with respect to worker capacity to meet demands.
7. Use biomechanical evaluations to recommend changes to the worker-workplace interface to minimize the risk of musculoskeletal repetitive trauma and to enhance worker productivity.

Grading: Lab Assignments: 10%

Labs graded as "0" if submitted late; all labs must be submitted (even if late) to pass the course.

Midterm: 20% (tentatively, Tuesday, October 10)
Project: Group biomechanics evaluation of tasks: 40%

Divided among group work, individual work & presentation. Note: a student or students selected for and subsequently choosing to present the project at the Graduate or Undergraduate Research Symposium may take an incomplete for KNR 342. Presentation at the URS or GRS will earn a participating student 5 additional percentage points towards the final grade in the course.

Comprehensive Final: 30% (Tuesday, December 12)
Note:

Exams must be taken at the scheduled times.

Exams consist of multiple choice questions & problems
